報告內容摘要

Abstract We place the important value on work in society. Work done could provide individual’s self-respect and satisfaction. For a person’s vocational success, numerous factors which are hard work, innate ability, luck, access to resources, and opportunity play a role. People with mild intellectual disability are also not exceptional. According to an ecological model, career development is determined by the dynamic interaction between individual and environmental of constructs with processes. Therefore, the researcher adopted a qualitative study to explode the process of employment of three adults with mild intellectual disability graduated from vocation high school. The data collection included observation and deep-interviews with the graduates and important others who are parents or, employers, homeroom teachers, co-workers, and job coaches. The data analysis and interpreting were conducted through the NVivo (8th ) to identify themes and patterns. The findings included two core parts as following: 1. In the process of job seeking, adult graduates with mild intellectual disability were influenced obviously by individual factors (such as trait, background, and belief), the level of a variety of support, and the disclosure issues of disability. 2. In the process of job adjustment, adult graduates with mild intellectual disability had to compromise incessantly with their environment since he/she got the job. The influences resulted from three key points, which were the matching between individual and workplace, the using of vocational rehabilitation resource, and the resources connecting by the homeroom teacher in vocational high school. There was a great diversity of features in the process of employment of adult graduates with mild intellectual disability. It depended on the interactive relationship between individual factors and the support in environment. The results in this study also implied that unavoidably adults with mild intellectual disability who integrated with the competitive workplace, had to face the conflict of their disability identity, disclosure, and marriage in workplace and community living.
